A modern Heavy Construction and Commercial Vehicles Academy (AGEVEC in French acronym) was today officially unveiled in Morocco’s Settat city.
It will train young people in the maintenance of heavy construction and commercial vehicles, equipping them with advanced technical skills that meet local industrial needs.
The Academy is the result of a public-private development partnership between the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Volvo Group, the Moroccan Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training, and several national organizations.
The new training facility will help young people acquire jobs and stimulate economic and social development in Cote’ d’Ivoire, Morocco, and Senegal by training up to 150 young people a year.
The curriculum offered by the Academy combines theoretical learning and practical apprenticeship at partner companies.  In addition, at the end of the training courses, career guidance and referral service will be offered to students to facilitate their career development.
“The practical knowledge one can acquire at AGEVEC through workshops and internships at local companies makes this training programme beyond comparison,” said Mohamed Ech-Chemchakhi, a student who has started the course. “Those who complete this programme will definitely excel on the job market.”
The unveiling ceremony was attended by national and international delegates, including the Minister of National Education and Vocational Training, Rachid Belmokhtar Benabdellah; the Ambassador of the United States of America to Morocco, Dwight L. Bush; and the Senior Vice-President of the Volvo Group, Malin Ripa.
