In partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has launched the second phase of technical training to train 500 local farmers and Syrian refugees in agricultural production and food processing techniques.
The training, under the UNIDO project titled “Creating employment and improving food security in the host communities of Syrian Refugees in the Northern and Central Badia in Jordan”, will address and meet the needs of beneficiaries regarding targeted crops: pomegranate, tomato, and herbal and aromatic medicinal plants. It will take place at 12 training locations in three governorates up until the middle of September.
The launching ceremony was attended by Norimasa Yoshida, the head of cooperation of Embassy of Japan to Jordan; Sulafa Mdanat, UNIDO country representative in Jordan; and Ali Abu Nukta, Director of Agriculture in Irbid.
In his speech, Norimasa Yoshida emphasized that the Japan-funded project is beneficial for the capacity building of the host communities in Jordan who are affected by the Syrian crisis. He expressed his support for the continuity of funding for such projects to improve and enhance the livelihoods of these communities.
