In the framework of the visit of His Highness the Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait and on the sideline of the 4th Session of the Kuwaiti-Jordanian Committee, a Grant Agreement between the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development was signed today in Amman. According to this Agreement, the Fund provides, on behalf of Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, a grant of US$ 6,000,000 as contribution to finance the project of establishing and equipping two primary schools in the capital governorate of Amman, the non-Governmental contribution representing a part of the donation allocated by to participate in the response plan for the Syrian Refugee's Crisis in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences has pledged US$ 50 Million over three years to support projects and activities for providing educational opportunities for the Syrian refugees in the countries hosting them, which comes within the framework of support pledged by the State of Kuwait during the Third Donors Conference held in the State of Kuwait.
The Grant Agreement was signed on behalf of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan by Her Excellency Doctor Mrs. Mary Kawar, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, while Mr. Abdulwahab Ahmed Al-Bader, Director General of Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, signed the Grant Agreement on behalf of the Fund.
The project aims to contribute to meeting the educational needs of the Syrian refugees as well as the hosting communities in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, by raising the level of educational services rendered to them, thus ensure continuity of providing the same in the areas condensed with refugees.
The project involves, establishing and equipping two primary schools in the capital Amman namely (Amman Mixed Primary School at Marka district and New Umm Qaseer & Muqableen Mixed Primary School in Qweismeh district), including the civil works for the educational, training and administrative facilities, as well as providing the necessary furniture and the educational and administrative fixtures, engineering services for the designs and supervision of the execution.
The Fund has previously provided the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan with 26 loans to finance projects in various sectors. The total value of those loans amounted to nearly 166.667 Million Kuwaiti Dinars, which was fully withdrawn, and as of 04/02/2019 an amount of 91.264 Million Kuwaiti Dinars were repaid. The Fund also granted the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan three Technical Assistances of 1.460 Million Kuwaiti Dinars to finance preparing technical and economic feasibility studies. The Fund also provided three grants to the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan totaling 1.664 Million Kuwaiti Dinars. The Government of the State of Kuwait has also provided a grant to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan amounting to 1.250 Billion US. Dollars, of which 1.210 Billion US. Dollars were withdrawn as of 04/02/2019.
