A five-day training course on “Green industrial development – Pathways towards a circular economy” opened at the University of Bahrain today. It is being supported by the Supreme Council for the Environment of the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Bahrain Centre for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (DERASAT) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization Investment and Technology Promotion Office in Bahrain.
The course brings together 15 policymakers from Ministries of Industry and Trade from African and Arab countries, as well as Bahraini professionals, to discuss core issues, including dematerialization and detoxification, energy efficiency, and renewables and their role in the development of a circular economy. The course introduces participants to key trends, providing them with a variety of policy instruments, and showcasing selected case studies through a series of lectures and interactive exercises.
At the opening, the President of the University of Bahrain, Riyad Y. Hamzah, stressed the importance of transitioning economies towards more sustainable modes of production. Issues covered in this course are becoming ever more pressing in Bahrain, as they are globally.
