Addressing  the session, which has been attended by Deputy Minister for Future Jobs and Digital Entrepreneurship in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, HE Dr. Ahmed Hasan Althenyan, and the Executive Director of Engineering in the Technology & Digital Sector at NEOM, Mr. Mansoor Hanif, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh underlined the importance of transforming communities into knowledge-based societies in order to become more productive, as it does boost their economy, it will increase their Gross National Product (GNP) and it does also address any challenges they may have to face.
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh added, “The global trend towards digital transformation imposed by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, increased the reliance on “digital services”, as the whole world has experienced an unprecedented increase in the emergence of Digital Channels that forced governments to accelerate the transformation into “e-governments”. He went onto to say: “The e-government offers several advantages  mainly in speeding up work procedures and saving time and effort, in addition, to carrying out work tasks anytime and anywhere.”
Thus Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh called on all institutions worldwide to implement digital transformation, noting that: “The constant need for digital transformation is increasing day-by-day, and this development will be the result of adopting modern technologies.” He further affirmed that the digital transformation would even change our bodies so they could be genetically modified.
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh, who chaired the UN Global Alliance for ICT for Development (UN GAID) and the United Nations Information and Communication Technologies Task Force (UN ICT TF), said: “Certainly, companies nowadays give special interests to results and growth which are possible to achieve if new expertise and methods have been created.”
At the end of his address, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stressed that the world is in the initial stage of digital transformation, which will last until the end of the current Century. He pointed to the important role the media plays in raising awareness about digital transformation and in promoting digital services especially in light of the real gap that exists in the delivery of such  services to community members.
