10-июл-2019

AMMAN-HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh received in his office Father Rifat Badr, general director of the Jordan-based Catholic Center for Studies and Media to strategically place the final steps towards the formation of the Code of Media Ethics based on the Islamic and Christian principles.

During the meeting, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stressed on the need to have such a code for all people working in the media sector requesting Fr. Badr to lead the committee at Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum and select members of the committee to finalize the Code.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stated that the media plays an important role in the society and this Code will act as a guidance to all who are using the media in their daily life.

"The idea follows the model set by HM King Abdullah II who has done more to seek religious harmony within Islam and between Islam and other religions than any other living political leader and was presented by the 2018 Templeton Prize Laureate. We hope to have the support of all people involved in the media and even the society," Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh said.

"After the completion of the Code, it will be distributed around the world at a large scale due to its importance in forming the main aspects of the media work," he added.

Fr. Badr thanked Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh for his guidance, vision and confidence saying that this important initiative is the work of a visionary man who believes in nothing but the future; "We believe in Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh's futuristic vision for a better world and we need this and due to the fact that the media plays a big role in our daily life, I believe that this Code will be instrumental."

It is worth noting that Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh played an instrumental role in forming the 10 principles of the Global Compact of the United Nations with former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. –

The Code of Media Ethics will be launched in a special ceremony after completion and will be distributed locally, regionally and globally.
